What is SELECT?
SELECT is a supplemental program offered through Moorpark Girls Softball (MGS) that gives players an opportunity to practice and compete in a more advanced environment. Unlike recreational softball, SELECT is geared toward experienced players who are ready for more competitive gameplay. The program includes practices, friendlies, USA Softball-sanctioned tournaments, and Friday Night Lights (FNL) league games — all designed to help players grow and challenge themselves.
What does SELECT offer?
SELECT provides a platform for players to sharpen their skills in a faster-paced, more competitive environment. It’s ideal for players looking to bridge the gap between recreational and travel ball — without the cost or year-round commitment. SELECT players train together, compete against skilled opponents, and experience a higher level of coaching and team play.
What is Fall SELECT?
Fall SELECT is a short-season program that runs from August through December 31, 2025. Players selected will participate in:

Two USA Softball tournaments (September 6th and 7th and November 1st and 2nd)

Weekend friendlies

Friday Night Lights (FNL) league play on Friday nights

One or two practice per week (held in Moorpark)
This program is designed for players who want to continue building their skills in a fun but competitive environment during the fall season.

Tryouts will be held the week of August 4, 2025

Interest Forms for both players and coaches are due by Sunday Monday July 28th. If your daughter does not make a SELECT team, she will still be eligible to play in Rec Fall Ball

Team Structure:
Teams will be formed based on tryouts and coach availability. Our goal is to form two teams per division — one competitive (Gold) and one developmental (Silver) — in 8U, 10U, and 12U.

Final team formation will depend on player turnout and coach interest
Games & Tournaments:
Tournament schedules and friendly games are determined by each team’s manager. Events are typically held on weekends throughout Southern California, including the Conejo and San Fernando Valleys.

Who should try out?
SELECT is a great fit for players who are ready for more reps, more competition, and a faster pace of play. If your daughter is passionate about the game and wants to grow, we encourage her to try out.
Will everyone make a team?
We aim to form two teams per division where numbers allow, but roster spots depend on turnout and coach availability. If your daughter is not selected for Fall SELECT, she can still register and play in Rec Fall Ball.
Coaching Info:
Coaches interested in managing a Fall SELECT team must submit their interest by Sunday, July 28, 2025. If multiple candidates apply, the MGS Select Committee will conduct interviews and appoint coaches.
